It's time
for this weeks comic book news, read on...
They are quite Fantastic...
-Fantastic Four #60, the first issue
featuring the new creative team of Mark Waid and Mike Wiernigo, has easily
made it's way to the top of Diamond
Comics August sales chart. The book has a $0.09 cover price which helped
a great deal in quantity ordered rankings. A feat quite similar to this was
pulled off a few weeks ago with Wildstorms Gen13 relaunch, which featured a
$0.13 cover price. This title also reached the number one position on
Diamond's shipping lists.
Picard loves the X2 script...
-According to
Cinescape, Patrick Stewart has nothing but good things to say about the
script for X2. Stewart, who will reprise the role of Charles Xavier said:
The story [of X2] goes in a direction
that I thought was quite unexpected, which is always a good thing, It
involves my character a good deal more than the other movie did. Unlike the
first X-Men where he was just out of the movie for a big chunk of time, he
is consistently active. I think it's looking really promising."
WB shows off new Birds Of Prey
Trailer...
-The Gotham Clock Tower now has a
link up to the newest Birds Of Prey trailer. The show based on the comic
book of the same title will premire during the 2002 Fall season on the
Warner Bros. network. Birds Of Prey is the second WB series to bring the DC
Universe to a new found live-action life. The first of course being last
years Smallville, which dealt with young Clark Kents learning of his past
and how to harness his powers. Birds Of Prey will be seen Wednesday nights
at 9 following Dawson's Creek.
"Sucks to be You" Update...
-As I mentioned in last weeks column,
a Seminole County man had over $50,000 worth of comic books stolen from a
storage facility. The culprit was found after selling all 30,000 (estimated)
books to the same store. The victim, Douglas Korinke said:
"I should have gotten them out of
(the storage facility) a long time ago, " Korinke said. "But I'm happy to
have them back. I can't wait to back up that U-Haul and get them out of
here."
Good idea. Korinke now plans on
selling some of his books, one of which is an original copy of the first
issue of Spider-Man, valued at $16,000.
Spawn goes to court...
-A court has ruled in favor of Todd
McFarlane in a recent case involving the use of hockey player, Tony Twist's
name in his Spawn title. The Missouri Court of Appeals' Eastern District
said comic book creator Todd McFarlane was free to use Twist's name in his
work of fiction - partly because the only resemblance between the former NHL
tough guy and the character was a reputation for violence. Twist said
McFarlane violated his rights by using his name without authorization. He
also argued that McFarlane cost him endorsements and other business by
associating his name with a character who is a brutal Mafia killer.
McFarlane, an avid hockey fan, has
admitted that he named his Tony Twist mob killer after the player. But the
artist said the resemblance stopped there, arguing in court documents that
"Spawn" characters "are purely fictional fantasies, and no reasonable person
could confuse the plaintiff with the fictional fantasies and characters
portrayed therein."
