NIC
CAGE TO SELL COMIC COLLECTION Actor Nicolas Cage plans to sell his comic book collection at the
Dallas ComiCon, a collectors' convention Oct. 11-13. Cage's collection
includes:
Numerous early issues of Action
Comics featuring Superman, perhaps even the Holy Grail of comics;
Action #1, the very first appearance of Superman by Clevelanders Jerry
Siegel and Joe Shuster. This comic alone, which sold for a dime in 1938,
could go for $200,000.
A "virtually complete" run of Adventure Comics, one of DC’s oldest
titles that included early adventures of Sandman, Hourman, Starman, Superboy,
and the Legion of Super-Heroes.
A complete run of all 92 issues of Marvel Mystery Comics the 1940s
home of the Human Torch and Sub-Mariner and later, Captain America. The
first issue of the series was called Marvel Comics.
A complete or almost complete run of All-Star Comics, the 1940s
adventures of the Justice Society of America.
A near- perfect copy of Captain America Comics #1 (1941) from the
legendary "Mile High" collection of near-mint comics found in Denver. Only
eight near mint copies of the first issue of the star-spangled avenger are
known to exist.
Near mint copies of Detective Comics #33, the seventh appearance of
Batman, and #38, the 12th.
NINJA TURTLES SHELVED
The CG Animated Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles movie (which was to be produced by John Woo) attracted very little
studio interest, and has been shelved. All hope for another TMNT film has
not been lost, however. Bergen also stated that several companies are in
talks to produce a possible fourth live action Turtles movie. As for the
animated TMNT series, Bergen says to look for a February or March air date,
and that Adelaide Studios (the same company that animates the Men in Black
and Jackie Chan Adventures cartoons) will be doing the animation honors.
KIA ASAMIYA TO DRAW UNCANNY X-MEN
Starting in December, Japanese manga
artist Kia Asamiya (of Image's Dark Angel, not based on the Jessica Alba
show of the same name) will be co-penciler for Uncanny X-Men. Samples of the
art (which look great) can be seen
here.
A PURRRR-FECT BIRTHDAY
Thursday was Julie Newmar's 67th
birthday. Julie is known for her role as Catwoman on the Batman TV series
back in the 60's. Isn't it great what you can find online?
Ok, now that's all the "news" I have.
But I decided to take a little time and just write, as I have yet to mention
anything of personal relevance on this fine site provided. So I've decided
I'll just write about some comic book related moments in my life. The first
of which shows how stupid of a kid I was growing up...
T'was a sunny June day, and like many
neighborhood children I was playing outside. I was always an imaginative lil
bugger, so to entertain myself I was running around with two sticks
pretending they were guns. Needless to say I tripped and fell. One of the
sticks went into my left eye and it hurt like a bitch, I tried opening my
eye but the pain was too much. My grandmother, as it was her house I was
staying at, gave me a washcloth filled with ice to put over my eye.
Grandmama called my parents and they
soon arrived to pick me up. Of course my mother was upset and I had to hear
all about how I shouldn't run with pointy objects...thanks, but it was a
little late. I was then rushed to the Ambulatory Care center's Emergency
Room. The diagnosis? A scratched cornea. My eye would be fine, all I would
have to do was wear an eye-patch for two weeks and take some antibiotics
(which for the record tasted NOTHING like orange).
Since this is getting a bit long I'll
continue it next week, I bet you all just can't wait.
