Midas
Wars: Episode1 This will be
a three part series about the road trip I went on this summer. Three college
friends and I decided to partake in a road trip. The four friends: Cap'n
Mike, Dan the Band Man, The Rob and A Rob (me) were going to drive 400 plus
miles to our destination. What is our destination? The World's Only Corn
Palace.
Day 1
I wake up early and load up the motor
home and start my 75 mile drive to meet up with the other three guys. First
I must describe the motor home. It is a 1975 Midas-Mini motor home with a
shaky steering wheel, no air conditioner and cruise control that is taped
on. I make the drive in just over two hours, the whole time I am driving
below the speed limit constantly trying not to hit the oncoming traffic. I
finally arrive and meet up with the others. We all decide to leave early the
next morning for The World's Only Corn Palace. In the meantime we decide to
do what any legal aged young adult does, go to the casino. Now, let me tell
you, I am a high roller, spending the entire night on the nickel machines. I
leave with my cup full and $40 ahead. The rest…well they don't have my
talent and they come out losing money. The ride back consisted of talk about
the fabled 'choad' and how the new Dave Mathew's Band single "The Space
Between" is indeed about the 'choad'. After some late night grocery shopping
where the entertainment consisted of throwing tampons over the aisle and
trying to get Dan the Band Man to score with one of the workers, we buy the
necessities for the trip: chips, cookies, pop/soda, macaroni and cheese, and
hotdogs. We arrive back to Dan the Band Man's house ready to get to bed and
get ready for an early start. This is what we should do, not what we end up
doing. See, Dan has cinemax or late at night when it turns into..Skinemax.
We spent the night watching a porn about a blind girl and taping Emmanuelle
2000: Emmanuelle's Sensual Pleasures. Finally around 5 am, we all went to
bed.
Day 2
We all wake up, finish loading all
our equipment into the Midas-Mini and get ready for our adventure to truly
begin. Inside this 18 foot Midas-Mini is a 19 inch TV, DVD Player, VCR, and
an original Nintendo Entertainment System. The bathroom is sacrificed and
instead used as storage for all our clothes. Yes, as college students, our
priorities are set straight. So off we go in the middle of a thunderstorm
armed with a road map and a book of Roadside Attractions.
