The Midas Wars: Episode 3

This is part 2 of a three part series about the road trip I went on this summer. Three college friends and I decided to partake in a road trip. The four friends: Cap'n Mike, Dan the Band Man, The Rob and A Rob (me) were going to drive 400 plus miles to our destination. What is our destination? The World's Only Corn Palace.

Day 3

We all wake up in anticipation to finally seeing the Corn Palace. The motor home gets unpacked and unhooked and off we go into our 5 mile drive to Mitchell, SD. On the way to the Corn Palace we saw a Kum & Go gas station along with the World Enchanted Doll Museum. We had to stop at the Kum & Go and pose for a picture under the sign (Note: Maturity level is very high among us). No one went in to the World Enchanted Doll Museum…that was just too scary.

I know I have built up the Corn Palace so much that most of you are just wondering what is inside it. Well….basically it's a big Gym with pictures of all the different designs of the previous corn palace. We happened to arrive during a day where they were currently switching from one corn design on the outside to another. This meant that half the Corn Palace wasn't even covered in corn!!!! We took some pictures…along with having others take pictures of us and us taking pictures of others. After some buffalo burgers we decided to head back to the campground. On the way to the motor home we came across an old married couple whom decided to start a conversation with us. The lady told us all about how she is glad she lives in Green Bay now instead of Los Angeles because there aren't many gangs in Green Bay. I'll be sure to hold on to this information when I am deciding to move into a different city.

The rest of Day 3 was uneventful…until that night came.

Now…4 guys…no matter how good of friends they may be will get into arguments when forced to spend such a long time together inside such a small space. That night we decided to watch a DVD. I am tired so I decided to sleep rather than watch a movie. An argument ensued about what the settings should be on a DVD. It was currently set for a widescreen TV so most of the picture wasn't showing up. I knew what the problem was, but no one was listening to me. The Rob decided not to let me handle the controller and fix the problem for him. I was getting angry and I did what any other full grown man would have done. I spit on him. The spit ricocheted of The Rob and proceeded to hit Captain Mike in the face as well. They were just as angry and decided to both spit on me. During all this frenzy I grabbed the DVD player and the DVD slipped off the tray and landed inside the DVD player (this was later fixed). We all went to bed in pissed off moods ready to head back home the next morning.

Day 4

We decided to drive on the freeway home and try to get back as soon as possible. After 2 hours of driving 70mph in South Dakota and another hour of 65 mph driving in Minnesota, the Midas Mini motor home overheated. We had to push it to the other side of a gas station and wait/hope for it to cool down. After walking to McDonalds and back we decided to give it another chance. The Midas Mini started up right away. Nothing…I mean nothing can keep the Midas Mini down.

We decided to go see the 63 foot statue of the Jolly Green Giant. The best I can describe it is as a statue of the Jolly Green Giant…but about 63 ft tall. After this we decided to go to Eden Prairie, Minnesota…home of where Mallrats was filmed. I finally saw the mall and walked thru it and it looks nothing like it did in Mallrats…stupid remodeling.

After all this…we finally got back to Dan the Band Man's house where we all went home our separate ways. I had a boring summer but this was definitely one of the highlights. If you are wondering where to go for Spring Break…I suggest The World's Only Corn Palace.

The End
