"Late
and More Late"
I would like to say that losing one's
column is the most irresponsible
thing a host on a webpage could do. It could be considered a black mark
on your integrity as a site. I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else in
the future.
My last column dealt with a number of
things. Oh it was a grand column,
indeed. Some likened it to the Bible before promptly being shot by a
sane person. Others compared it to a young Greg Watson, which I still do
not get. All great reactions, all great feedback. It was truly a
masterpiece...
But you won't get to see that.
What you are getting now is a
replacement column. It may not be as deep
as the one that was lost oh so long ago (a couple of days ago), but it
still may start some talky-type stuff. It's called "MORE". I will list
and support certain things which I believe should be given MORE of the
limelight. Copy? 10-4.
(In no particular order)
MORE
1. Long Beach Dub Allstars
2. Rufus Wainwright
3. Slipknot
4. Imogen Heap
5. Tool
6. Mad Lion
7. LIMP BIZKIT
8. Rollins Band
9. Sevendust
10. Reel Big Fish
1. LBDAS is still a highly back-shelf
band. While underground followings
are great, these are people who have come a long way, and deserve a
little something more.
2. If you've never heard this guy,
you're missing out. Good for the
young'uns to git sum culture, e-yeah.
3. Slipknot. People hate this band
for no reason whatsoever. I have
loved them for years, along with about an army-full of others who can
recognize talent when they see it. They wear masks. KISS wore makeup.
Blame the generation gap, but fuck off when you say Slipknot is average.
4. I don't know why all these agents
looking for "the next best thing"
aren't supporting Imogen Heap a little better. It may degrade her talent
for saying so, but she's money in the bank.
5. Tool should be used as such.
6. Just listen to Mad Lion, so I
don't have to explain this one.
7. Limp Bizkit died when Wes left.
But another Limp Bizkit is in the
making. Will it be as good (or better, if you never liked LB)? It
doesn't matter until they release something. They get ridiculed for
everything else, so I don't think this new guitarist will sit well. I
really like Limp Bizkit. I really do.
8. With innovative sound and lyrical
lay-out, Rollins Band was well
received by most who heard their music. Unfortunately, that number still
remains fairly low.
9. Part of the group of bands that
started to rise in the mid-90's (but
were slowed down before they could become top names), Sevendust sounds
like no other band, and that means a lot in this time of more of the
same bullshit every month.
10. Finally, Reel Big Fish kicks so
much ass, even your mother screamed,
"Oh yeah, spank me daddy." when I strapped the headphones on her crusty
head. Sure, I'll get really drunk, get RBF out, and party, but it's even
great to listen to when you're not intoxicated.
Well that's that. I guess this is
twice I've left a void in The Box. Can
I please do my real first column now? I'll play the race card. That's
right, I said it! |
