The Box
Now that many a person who refused to
see Lord of the Rings in the
theaters (Mr. Kevin Smith included) have no doubt gotten a chance to
catch it on VHS and DVD, why are people not heralding the film?
Lord of the Rings is one of the
greatest movies ever made. There's no
question about that, yet people refuse to call it as such.
I read the books at an early age and
wasn't really engaged by them. I
read them again later in life, and they seemed a bit better. To me, the
books represent fictional literature at it's finest, but if you do not
get totally enveloped in the everything Middle Earth, you may get backed
up. The film has completely taken away the option of being slightly
confused by what you read.
The screenplay, the execution, all
the way down to the way they are
releasing each DVD and Theatrical print has been perfect. We are
watching history being made, so why then are people bitching about this
film?
Something this big only comes around
once in a lifetime, so I think
people who aspired to do something like it are angered at having it
snatched away from "them". That's the only thing I can think of.
I was having a conversation with
someone about the film recently, and
here's a transcription of part of it:

Well, I liked it, but it didn't really resolve anything at the end.

And don't give me none of that "It's part of a trilogy" BS, either.

They should have included the ending.

The Fellowship of the Ring.

They did. In fact, they even ran over into the second book to make a
decent ending for the film.

I think they should have written a new ending for each book.

That's more stupid than giving Anna Nicole Smith her own TV show, you do
realize that, right? Just wait a few months. It IS part of a trilogy, so
if the first film is left open, it's for a reason.

Liv Tyler should have been naked, too.
For legal reasons, I cannot tell you
here what I did after he said
that... Just let me assure you that he'll have a lot of time to think
about his actions while he's recovering.
Now that that's over, I figured I'd
close out this column with some of

found that upgrading is all up to you,
but if they are cracked in the least bit, you need them replaced. Hope

Sorry, Marvin. If I just went on
about myself, It wouldn't be answering
your question completely (as I cannot speak for anyone else). Instead,
I've been hearing talks of a profile section for this site, so If you
have a plan for how said profile section would work, go ahead and e-mail
to the site moderators. They are looking for some new ideas, so don't
let your askewniverse family down.
